The Petit Palais presents the first French retrospective devoted to Jusepe de Ribera, one of the greatest Spanish painters of the 17th century, who spent his entire working life in Italy. This exhibition

retraces the whole of his career, drawing in particular on recent scientific discoveries which have made it possible to attribute a group of paintings to him, dating from his early years in Rome.

The exhibition features around a hundred paintings, drawings and engravings, and aims to show that Ribera - the formidable heir to Caravaggio but "darker and more ferocious" than his master - is one of the greatest painters of the Baroque period.
