At the théâtre libre
From April 9th to 20th, 2025.
While respecting the original storyline, this new adaptation of Carmen, with a very
urban and decidedly contemporary coloring, resonates with the current awareness of women's place in our society, their emancipation, their will of equality and raises the issue of feminicide.
A rebellious gypsy from Seville will be arrested in her quest for freedom due to the murderous jealousy of a man. The originality of this choreography by Julien Lestel finds its strength in contemporary
gestures as well as in the music, which features instrumental works by Georges
Bizet and Rodion Shchedrin alongside an electro-acoustic musical creation by Iván
Julliard. This is a Carmen transposed into today’s world, beyond any borders. Virtuoso, powerful and modern.
